The senior hurlers opened their league campaign with a good win over Ardoyne at Mallusk. Playing with the wind in the first half we started on the front foot with Stephen McGivern opening the scoring with a point. Chris Gallagher then went on a solo run from his own half before striking the sliotar  from distance between the posts. Stephen McGivern added three quickfire points before Gary Nelson caught the sliotar from a Chris Gallagher sideline cut and finished to the net before adding two further points, the first following good work from Eugene Gallagher and Anthony Rowntree. Paul McGivern then got on the score sheet, the sliotar was drilled in low to the square and with his back to goal he flicked it up and drove it passed the keeper. Colm McKee got his first point of the match before Ardoyne registered their first point from a well struck free. Thomas Maguire then played a high ball out of defense, Colm McKee took a high catch, stepped to the left and drove the sliotar between the sticks to leave the half time score Ardoyne 0-1 Davitts 2-10.
Ardoyne opened the second half with a pointed free which we countered with a Stephen McGivern pointed free and a Gary Nelson point.  Ardoyne then scored 1-1 but a Michael Rowntree solo run and handpass to Stephen McGivern saw him strike the sliotar over the bar from a tight angle and he then knocked over another free. Ardoyne added another pointed free but  then quick movement of the sliotar out of defense from Thomas Maguire to Stephen McGivern and handpass to sub Rory McEvoy saw him finish off the move with an excellent point. Our final point of the game came from Colm McKee and with time running out Ardoyne scored their second goal to leave the final score Ardoyne 2-5 Davitts 2-16.
Scorers: Stephen McGivern 0-8, Gary Nelson 1-3, Paul McGivern 1-0, Colm McKee 0-3, Chris Gallagher 0-1, Rory McEvoy 0-1.
