AIJB Hurling Series – Davitts 1-2 John Lockes 6-20

The senior hurlers came up against a quality Kilkenny side in the Leinster semi-final at Heywood College. John Lockes proved to be a step up in class from our previous opponents Corra Choill and we suffered a heavy defeat. We started well and in the first ten minutes we matched our illustrious opponents all over the park. We created many scoring opportunities but failed to hit the target and it was John Lockes who struck over 4 points to take an early advantage. At this stage we hit back with Gary Nelson blasting to the net but from there on we were always on the back foot. The Kilkenny boys took over and despite our best endeavors we couldn’t control their waves of attacks, they were clinical in front of the posts as they went on a scoring spree. The match as a contest was over at half time but we battled hard in the second half and on the day we were beaten by a quality side, so we can have no complaints. Our points came from Chris Gallagher and Thomas Maguire.
