ACHL Div 3 – Glen Rovers 4-19 Mac Dáibhéid 2-13

The hurlers travelled to a damp, cold and windy Armoy on Wednesday evening for this Division 3 encounter.

Glen Rovers took advantage of the strong breeze in the first half and built up an early lead as they clinically picked off score after score from all angles and by the 17th minute had established a 1-5 to 0-1 advantage, with our point from a Stephen McGivern free. Glen Rovers dominated the first half and we struggled to contain their onslaught as they continued to pick off the scores including two majors. Despite a point from Stephen McGivern and a goal from Anthony Rowntree we were well in arrears at the half time whistle 3-14 to 1-2.

With the assistance of the wind on the restart we played with more enthusiasm and determination and began to pick off some nice points, with Chris Gallagher (0-2), Anthony Rowntree and Antoin McLaughlin all on target. Glen Rovers responded with 3 points on the spin but we then enjoyed our best spell of the game with Peter Carleton goalling, Chris Gallagher adding 0-3 and a point from Marcas Toner. Another Glen Rovers minor was followed with further points from Peter Carleton and Chris Gallagher (0-2) which put more respectability on the score line but a Glen Rovers goal at the end took a bit of the gloss of our second half performance with Glen Rovers the winners 4-19 to 2-13.
