IFC – Group 2 (Rd 1) – Pádraig Sairseil 1-13 Mac Dáibhéid 0-3

The senior footballers were totally outplayed in their first outing of the Intermediate Football Championship at the Bear Pit on Wednesday evening. It was a disappointing performance and one which we need to put behind us and prepare for our next game at home to Naomh Seosamh on Saturday evening.

Na Sairseil opened the scoring with an early point but a good ball into the forward line to Michael Connolly who side stepped his man resulted in the equalising point. In the eighth minute Na Sairseil had a great goal opportunity but Aaron Slane made a fine save to thwart the effort. We edged in front when Aaron Slane pointed a long range free but the sides were level again when Na Sairseil pointed from a 20 metre free. Scores were at a premium but Na Sairseil tagged on two points, one after a good spell of possession and the other an in swinging effort which just went inside the near post. The sending off of Aaron Slane in the 22 minute reduced us to fourteen but a rare forage forward, resulted in a nice point for Anto Hargan who kicked off his left foot from the right side. The final point of the half went to Na Sairseil to give them a half time lead in a low scoring affair 0-5 to 0-3.

Na Sarseil scored a point directly from the restart which gave them the impetus to push on. We found ourselves camped in our own 45 and struggled to get out and create any scoring opportunities. Na Sairseil kicked a further 1-7, while we failed to register a second half score and at the whistle Na Sairseil were deserved winners 1-13 to 0-3.

Scorers: M Connolly 0-1, Aaron Slane 0-1 and Anto Hargan 0-1.
