The senior footballers maintained their unbeaten start to the league campaign when they had 5 points to spare over Ciceam Ard Eoin on Sunday at Fennell Park.
Both teams had early opportunities to open their account, but the first score didn’t arrive until the fourth minute when Chris Rafferty converted a 21 yard free. Further pointed frees from Aaron Slane and Chris Rafferty extended our advantage. The first point from open play came from Jack Scally following good possession and a swift counter out of defence. We were dominating proceedings at this stage but Ard Eoin reduced the deficit to a point with a well taken goal. We regained our momentum with a point from Anto McGrattan after dogged work by Conor and Marcas Toner. Another break up field saw Chris Raffety kick his third point of the day and Anto McGrattan got his second taking advantage of a quick taken free to gain possession and finish over the bar. Ard Eoin responded with a point but from the resulting kick out CJ Sullivan took a high catch, ran at the Ard Eoin defence, handpassed off to Anto McGrattan who side stepped in from the right side and his left footed effort sailed over the bar. We went five in front when Jack Scally kicked a glorious score off the outside of his right boot and with Ard Eoin getting the final point of the half from a free the fist half concluded with the score Ard Eoin 1-2 Mac Dáibhéid 0-9.
Both teams traded early points on the restart with Chris Raffety converting a free from 35 metres. Ard Eoin then enjoyed their best spell of the game as they kicked 3 unanswered points to leave the minimum between the sides. However, the comeback was short lived as CJ Sullivan finished to the back of the Ard Eoin net and we quickly tagged on further points from Jack Scally and Marcas Toner. Ard Eoin hit back with another goal to leave three between the sides but we finished strongly with points from Aaron Slane (0-2f) and Marcas Toner with a consolation Ard Eoin point leaving the final score Ard Eoin 2-7 Mac Dáibhéid 1-15.
