ACHL Div 4 – Davitts 0-10 St Agnes 2-8

This was a game which got away from us in the last ten minutes but it was a 100% improvement on our last outing away to O’Donnells. We played with the strong breeze in the first half and created many scoring opportunities but we hit too many wides  and missed several gilt edged goal chances, in fact if we had  been more clinical in front of goal we probably would have been out of sight at half time. We dominated early on, battling hard and intensely for every ball but despite our dominance  a rare St Agnes attack resulted in the award of a free about 25 yards out and the free was dispatched fiercely to the back of the net. We regrouped and at half time held a 0-7  to 1-1 lead.

It was all backs to the wall in the second half as St Agnes took advantage of the strong wind but we were solid defensively. However, we conceded several easy frees which allowed St Agnes back into the game.  Despite our best efforts, the Aggies went a point in front before a goal in the dying minutes put a bit of gloss on their win.

This was a game we didn’t deserve to lose, our work rate was much improved and we hurled with plenty of determination. Both teams had 10 scores but the the difference on the night was that they took their two goal opportunities.
