The senior hurlers concluded their league campaign with a hard fought 2 point victory at home over Ard Eoin.
We started strongly and within the opening 13 minutes had knocked over 5 points, courtesy of Donn Whelan (0-2, 1f), Stephen Thompson (0-2) and Marcas Toner to take the early initiative. Ard Eoin settled into the game and got off the mark with a brace of points, however within a ten minute period we struck 1-5 to Ard Eoins 0-3 to extend our advantage with Marcas Toner, Donn Whelan (1-3, all frees), and Stephen McGivern on target. Ard Eoin kept themselves in the game with an injury time goal, going in at the break trailing 1-10 to 1-5.
We hit the opening two points on the restart through Dealgan Mooney and Marcas Toner but again Ard Eoin struck back with four consecutive points to eat into our lead , however we steadied things with points from Marcas Toner and Stephen Thompson. Ard Eoin responded again with a goal and a point but Marcas Toner cancelled this with 1-1 of his own and Cormac Maguire (0-2) and Donn Whelan chipped in with minors.
Despite Ard Eoin striking three points in injury time we had done enough to earn a deserved win. Next up will be a rematch with Ard Eoin as both teams meet in the Junior Hurling Championship on 26 July at Fennell Park with a 7.15pm throw in.
Scorers: D Whelan 1-6, S Thompson 0-3, M Toner 1-5, S McGivern 0-1, D Mooney 0-1 and C Maguire 0-2
We can also look forward to a promotion play off with Na Magha on 18 August at Dunsilly with a 2pm throw in and we will be hoping that we can push on and secure a place in division 3 for the 2025 campaign.
