IFC – Gp 2 – Rd 3 – Naomh Seosamh 0-10 Mac Dáibhéid 1-10

The senior footballers picked up their first points of this years IFC campaign when defeating Naomh Seosamh by a goal at Glenavy in a tough and close encounter.

The sides were level on 4 separate occasions during the opening 15 minutes, with our points coming from the boot of Padraig McParland (0-3) and Sean O’Neill (0-1). For a brief period both teams were guilty of some wayward shooting but Stephen Tully then edged us in front 0-5 to 0-4 with a well taken point before a swift move down the left hand side provided Padraig McParland with the perfect opportunity and he added another point to his tally. On the stroke of half time we had a goal chance but the Glenavy keeper made an outstanding save to leave us with a two point advantage at the break 0-6 to 0-4.

The second half was just as tight and despite further points from Padraig McParland (0-2) and Sean O’Neill (0-1), Glenavy chipped away to ensure there was only two points in the game. However, a Chris Rafferty pointed free and a goal from Sean O’Neill, after a 60 yard solo run, gave us a comfortable advantage going into the last 5 minutes of the game. Glenavy threw caution to the wind and went on the attack and with points, following a succession of fouls, reduced the deficit to three but we had done enough to secure the victory 1-10 to 0-10.
