While neither team could progress any further in the championship, this final group game of the Intermediate Football Championship took on more importance as the Division 2 league status of both teams was also dependant on the outcome and thankfully, we got over the line, in a cagey tight affair.
There was nothing between the sides in the first half and at the break were level 0-5 to 0-5. However, like most of these do or die games it takes a moment of brilliance to gain the upper hand, and it came from Deaglan Mooney who after taking possession of the ball went on a solo run through the Gortnamona defence before blasting the ball to the net to put us in front. From here we managed to see the game out as both teams traded point for point with the final whistle leaving us winners by the minimum margin and Division 2 football guaranteed next season.
