U10The juvenile section are hosting the Inaugural U10 Hurling Memorial Tournament, this Saturday 1st August, at Falls Park.

The tournament is open to children born on/after 1 January 2005 and clubs are asked to respect this in the interest of fair play.

This soon to be annual event is a 10-a-side competition (maximum squad size of 14) to compete for three trophies, named in memory of three stalwarts and servants of our club, who are sadly no longer with us; John Rowntree, John O’Toole and Seamus Hurley.

The 12-team tournament will consist of three groups of four teams and each side is guaranteed 5 matches. Others than ourselves, the competing clubs are; Cuchullains Dunloy, Ruairi Og Cushendall, Rossa, Mc Quillans Ballycastle, Shamrocks Loughgiel, Tir na nOg, St Galls, St Enda’s, O’Donnells, Gort na Mona and Sarsfields.

The purpose of the tournament is to promote hurling via meaningful competition, with the primary focus of the day on participation and enjoyment.

Team mentors are asked to encourage, recognise and appreciate the skills of the young players.

Registration is 10.00am SHARP, with games staring at 10.30am. Organiser Alan Rainey would appreciate if all competing teams adhere with the registration requirements.

Games are 7-minutes each half and on completion of the group stages, there will be a 15 minute break before the knockout stages. The finals scheduled to start at 1.20pm

Although lunch will be provided after the finals are completed, clubs are asked to bring along some light refreshments.

Lunch will be served in the Park Pavilion, followed by the presentations.

Each player will receive a medal and the winning teams will be presented with their trophies;
