The U8 footballers made the journey to An Riocht GAC (Down) yesterday, for the annual Adrian McAlinden 11-a-side football tournament.
The team didn’t play played as well as expected in the first two group games, losing to Bellaghy (Derry) and Culloville (Armagh) but improved after that and played much better.
They battled hard to a 1-point victory over Clann na Banna (Down), who were unbeaten before that, and enjoyed a comfortable victory against the host club to finish 2nd in the group and qualify for the ‘cup’ quarter finals.
The opponents were Mullahoran (Cavan) and the team matched them for ability and commitment throughout, but the Cavan side took their scores better and we bowed out.
The kids had an enjoyable day and put in some great performances. The mentors and supporters were extremely proud of the effort.
